Mixing vs Mastering

To put in simple terms… Mixing music is adding ingredients to a cake. A Mixing engineer, like a baker, starts out by asking how much of each ingredient, what brand of ingredient, flavor, and what order is it added to make sure that the ingredients blend together to make an amazing cake?

After the cake is baked, it needs icing to make it presentable. You work with the complete cake, adding colors topings and sprinkles to taste, but the ingredients are already set. That’s audio mastering.
